There are a lot of our elected officials who pride themselves in not being influenced by special interests who donate heavily to their campaign chests. These are not the ones I am referring to. I am speaking directly to those who get elected by their constituents to go to Washington and carry out the changes they as a majority wish to have made.
I don’t accept the argument from any of these that they are answering to that little voice inside of them that their conscience and their philosophy does not allow them to do otherwise. In other words, you may hold an ideology, but you can’t go against the wishes of the people you represent.
To the Republicans that are all in this boat, I will say this: You will be in the wrong side of history once more if this legislation passes. Just like you opposed Medicare in the 60’s and now you defend it, you will be ostracized by your own constituencies.
If you have allowed the Fox propaganda machinery to influence your thinking, if you have paid any attention to the insanity displayed during the month of August at the Town Hall Meetings all you have to do is look at the poll numbers that are out today. Only 20% of voters identify themselves as Republicans.
To the “Blue Dog Democrats” I say: Don’t expect the Democratic Party and most of the organizations that support candidates to come out and give you a hand come re-election time.
To the Republicans: Just prepare yourselves for a great divide, one that will see the birth of a third party, born out of the “Teabaggers” and “Birthers” and that will almost guarantee a defeat in the elections of 2010 and beyond. I guarantee that the birthing pains won’t be pleasant. You may think that the American voter has a short attention span and a lousy memory. But this you are not going to get away with, mostly because the electorate will remember and if they don’t, there will be millions like myself who will remind them.

HATE CRIMES BILL PASSES, WE ARE RELIEVED!
My Congresswoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz wrote me:
“October 23, 2009

Dear Mr. Rodriguez:
Thank you for writing me about hate crimes legislation. I have reviewed your comments and I welcome this opportunity to respond.
Hate crimes threaten our great nation’s most fundamental values: the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Crimes perpetrated on the basis of religion or race are familiar to us all. Violence associated with anti-Semitism or racism has for centuries torn at the values of tolerance, and respect for differences and justice upon which this country was founded. H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, brings these values up to date by prohibiting violent acts based on characteristics that individuals do not control - race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
Despite the common misperception, this legislation does not threaten the freedom of speech or punish belief or thought of any kind. In fact, this bill contains a provision that specifically reiterates that free speech rights are not altered in any way by the legislation. This legislation seeks only to punish violent acts.
Hate crimes not only injure individual victims, but also threaten entire segments of our population. Left unpunished, hate crimes send powerful messages of intolerance leaving both the victim as well as others in their group feeling unwelcomed and unprotected. The feelings of fear, division and powerlessness that hate crimes sow, threaten a basic right of all Americans – the right to feel and be safe in their communities. It is for these reasons that I am a proud cosponsor and supporter of this legislation which honors this nation’s commitment to justice, equality and freedom.
Correspondence from constituents like you is essential to my work in Congress, and I hope that you will continue to inform me of your concerns. I value your input as I work to shape national policies to reflect the views of Florida’s 20th District. Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Member of Congress”

THE GAY AGENDA…WHAT GAY AGENDA?
To hear these homophobic Fundamentalist/Evangelical Christianists talk about “THE GAY AGENDA”, one would think that there is a conspiracy or a concerted effort on the part of

GLBT forces to destroy marriage, turn their children in to homos and suppress the religious fanatics denying them of their freedom of speech.Nothing could be further from that bullshit. The truth is that GLBT people only want to have the same rights as everyone else and they want to have these assholes stopped from legislating their bigotry to allow them to discriminate legally.
But if you speak of agendas…let’s talk about the FUNDAMENTALIST/EVANGELICAL AGENDA…which is to convert everyone to their ways even if they have to kill the converts in order to do it.
