I attended a demonstration today in support of a Public Option
This afternoon there was a demonstration in front of Senator Bill Nelson’s office in Fort Lauderdale. If I hadn’t seen it for myself I would not have believed it. The “Teabaggers” were there, I estimated about 40 of them, all carrying very ambiguous signs. I don’t know whether to think that these people either are stupid or they are sent there by the Insurance Companies.
In any case, I exercised a great deal of restraint. As opinionated and outspoken as I am, I kept my cool, did not confront any of them although I was tempted. Up to a point, however, when one of the ladies who worked in the adjacent building comes out, I suppose she just got off work. She looked at my sign and said: “Why don’t you read the Constitution?” Since she spoke to me first, I thought a response was in order: “Madam, I can recite the Constitution for you if you wish. Do you have Health Insurance? Well, I don’t” To which she answered: “Why should I have to pay for your health insurance?” My answer: “You would much rather pay inflated premiums so insurance companies executives can live in the Hamptons?” She hurriedly left and got in her car.
Those in favor of supporting a Public Option outnumbered the Teabaggers 3 to 1, I am happy
