Social Security not meant to be a retirement plan
Today in the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel in the Saturday Forum a Linda Weiss Rose managed to get an article published where she is basically saying that teachers shouldn’t bitch about not getting COLA increases. Neither should seniors who in her opinion; is just too bad that they are counting on Social Security for survival. She ends the article by saying: “Life is tough—deal with it”.
In other words, she is such a heartless conservative that to her Social Security is one big inconvenience and socialist program she has to contribute to with her taxes. I am sure if she had her way she would do away with it and screw all seniors or put in more crude terms: SCREW YOU, YOU OLD FARTS!
Only in the minds of people like her and most Republicans can such a notion flourish. Listen you morons, it is not like we seniors are getting a free lunch here, we paid into Social Security for years and years, and they took our contributions and even used some of these funds to finance other government endeavors depriving Social Security of the interest that money would have received. The government was taking our money and safeguarding it for us.
But did she ever give any thought that some of us didn’t fritter away our money, saved and saved, had pension plans and 401Ks we put money into and last year, thanks to her Republican friends and her type of ideology, we lost it all. When the redistribution of wealth took place, from the poor and the middle class, going to the rich; we lost it all. So now, all we have left is Social Security. I am willing to bet that she would have supported President Bush’s proposal to privatize Social Security. Where would seniors be now if that had happened?
How is that for Life is tough?—Live with it, Ms Linda Weiss Rose. I am afraid you are just going to have to pay taxes so that I and millions of seniors in this country can barely subsist just like I paid my taxes when I was part of the work force.

Only in America do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions filled while the healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
