-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Short and Sweet, well, not really, bitter might be a better word.

Today’s blog is going to be short, simply because I can’t see making so much emotional investment in the Health Care issue when we know more or less what the outcome is going to be.

As it stands right now, this legislation that is going to go through the motions of being debated and voted upon, may or may not make it, but if it does, it is not Health Care Reform, it is simply some regulations and a lot of gratuitous perks to the Insurance Companies. It is a gift from the American tax payer to the already gloating and arrogant insurance and pharmaceutical companies.

The question is simply this: How do we avoid, prevent and prohibit all this bullshit from happening? Can we actually have democracy in this country? Are we to buckle and be subjected to the whims and greed of big corporations? Is the almighty dollar and the greed for profit more important than ONE MAN, ONE VOTE?

Simply put: NO. And here comes the argument of freedom of speech. You see, I see freedom of speech as it is guaranteed in the Constitution as something that applies only to natural, living, genuine human beings, citizens of this country that have the right of free expression.

A corporation is not a human being. A corporation is devoid of an intellect or even morals and ethics. Therefore, I should think that Constitutional guarantees do not apply to them. I firmly believe that if democracy is to survive we are going to have to put an end to LOBBYING.

Corporations can donate as much money as they want to political campaigns, they are free to do so as long as the politician discloses the contributions. But what they should not be able to do by law is to try to influence and to exert their will and wishes on the politicians by demanding special concessions or to make legislation that only benefits them. They are not constituents, they are not entitled do Constitutional rights. Period!
