Cruise Ship Chef Missing at Sea

According to a log on Cruise Junkie dot Com, Faliva is the 128th person to go missing on a cruise ship since 2000. This year alone, 22 people have fallen or jumped overboard, including 14 who have gone missing from ships also owned by Carnival Corporation.

Chef Angelo Faliva, 31, is believed to have fallen overboard from the Princess Cruise ship Coral Princess just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Italian chef's family was told that he unexpectedly walked out of his dinner shift around 8:15pm on Wednesday, November 25, and has not been seen since, reported the Associated Press on November 29th.

On Thursday, the Faliva family was told that he had been reported missing, along with one of the ships life preservers. The preserver's nighttime illumination flares had been torn off and left aboard the ship.

"He surely didn't jump off. It wasn't suicide," his sister Chiara Faliva told AP from the family's home in Cremona. "We think there was an accident or a homicide."

You know what I think? Maybe his cooking wasn’t that good and somebody just pushed him overboard. They were “fed up” with the shit on a shingle he was dishing out. What is it about all these people missing from ships? I get sea sick big time and have taken two cruises in my life and I swore that I would never again take another. Now this makes me even more reluctant.

Stray animals

My partner’s sister has the compassion of Mother Theresa and a heart that has to be bigger. Not only is she sweet and pretty but you feel the kindness when you are in her presence. She has to in her job. She is a nurse and she enjoys her work. Her great ability to relate to people and have empathy is also translated to the love of animals.

Yesterday, a very scrawny, sick and limping stray cat appeared at our back door. She of course took it in and fed him, gave him water and locked it in the garage to protect it from the other cats. The cat spent the night there and by this morning his walk had improved considerably. It makes a very faint and anemic meow. We opened the garage to throw out the garbage and the cat ran away. It came back later and it is now hanging around the lanai.

Laurie suggested we give it a name and I told her the minute you name it, you own it. I am not in favor of having cats or dogs for that matter because with cats, my allergies kick in and dogs, well they are a lot of work and responsibility. Then they die on you and it is a devastating experience.

Having said that, I think that if you are going to keep a pet, you should also take on the responsibilities of keeping it healthy. I must have spent thousands of dollars on vets in my lifetime, but I have always done the right thing: give my pet shots and spay them.

I told Laurie that I could not take care of it, that if she wanted to keep it, if it survives, then she would have to be responsible for it. I also told her that there are a lot of people who go to bed hungry in this country every night. It is particularly tragic with children. So, I can’t become the welfare representative nor will I be able to solve all of these problems, whether it is hungry, homeless people or animals.

I think my biggest objection to having a dog is the picking up of feces after they do their business. Somehow I can’t reconcile in my mind how a grown man can be going behind an animal and scooping up its crap. I have visions of ex-President Bush doing that now and it is not very dignified.

And speaking of stray cats…this is your blogger. Picture was taken on Thanksgiving day.
