I am not impressed, I am not amused

From President Barack Obama, this is what the White House sent:

After a nearly century-long struggle, we are now on the cusp of making health insurance reform a reality in the United States of America.
As with any legislation, compromise is part of the process. But I'm pleased that recently added provisions have made this landmark bill even stronger.

Between the time when the bill passes and the time when the insurance exchanges get up and running, insurance companies that try to jack up their rates do so at their own peril. Those who hike their prices may be barred from selling plans on the exchanges.
And while insurance companies will be prevented from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions once the exchanges are open, in the meantime there will be a high-risk pool where people with pre-existing conditions can purchase affordable coverage.

I hate to break it to them, but this is not in any way shape or form reform, it does have some regulations and some bite to it, but I guarantee that the greedy insurance companies will find their way around them. What we might end up is a very regrettable situation similar to when Clinton passed the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” crappy legislation. We have lived to regret that one as we are going to live to regret this one as well. As long as you don’t have a Public Option and real competition, the insurance companies will have a hold of our proverbial bolitas.

Sorry Mr. President, you have lost us liberals on this one.
Ted Kennedy has to be turning over in his grave. I really don’t know why Republicans are not in favor of this legislation…it affords their darling insurance companies a gift from the tax payers and will provide them with 30 million new customers…It is a sweetheart deal, and as I said before, I am sure the champagne corks are popping all over the Insurance Companies’ headquarters.

But we all know why the Republicans will not vote…because they are obstructionists and hell bent on destroying President Obama and in the process destroying our country; as if they had not already inflicted enough damage.
Hell the Republicans were even praying for something bad to happen to one of the Senators. Now that really crosses the line. But wait a minute here, does God not answering their prayer means that God is not on the side of Republicans? Maybe we are to assume that even his son, Jesus Christ was the champion of the sick, the meek, the poor and downtrodden, would God betray his own son? So, pray away you mother fuckers, God is not listening to you.

Ted Kennedy must be turning over in his grave

A first for Latin America

Out of one of the most machista of all of Latin American country, here comes the first of many to come: GAY MARRIAGE IN MEXICO CITY – Mexico City lawmakers on Monday made the city the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage, a change that will give homosexual couples more rights, including allowing them to adopt children.
The bill passed the capital's local assembly 39-20 to the cheers of supporters who yelled: "Yes, we could! Yes, we could!" Leftist Mayor Marcelo Ebrard of the Democratic Revolution Party was widely expected to sign the measure into law. Mexico City's left-led assembly has made several decisions unpopular elsewhere in this deeply Roman Catholic country, including legalizing abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. That decision sparked a backlash, with the majority of Mexico's other 32 states enacting legislation declaring life begins at conception. The conservative Nation Action Party of President Felipe Calderon has vowed to challenge the gay marriage law in the courts. However, homosexuality is increasingly accepted in Mexico, with gay couples openly holding hands in parts of the capital and the annual gay pride parade drawing tens of thousands.
