It's a huge victory, but before we celebrate, there may be trouble ahead. You may have heard that in a blatantly political move to prevent this vote the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington last month threatened to cut their social service programs if the bill passed.
They threatened to cut homeless shelters, food programs for needy families, and health services rather than provide equal benefits for employees in same-sex marriages. And now that the bill has passed, we need to make sure they don't follow through on their threat.
Again here is the perfect example of religion getting into politics. They think that they still have the world by the balls like they did during the middle Ages. We are just going to have to start threatening them and even going ahead to enact legislation that would tax religious institutions that get involved in politics. That should shut them up for a while. In the meantime, we need to start telling this asshole Archbishop Wuerl not to play politics with the ones who will be hurt most: the less fortunate.
Please go to: http://www.hrc.org/ and sign the petition.
The Archbishop issued a very public threat last month designed to scare city officials into backing off their commitment to marriage equality.
Thankfully, heroic D.C. Council members in Washington didn't cave under pressure. They spoke numerous times with church officials in an effort to reach common ground, while moving forward with the legislation. But unfortunately, Archbishop Wuerl has refused to alter his official position.
The D.C. Council has stood up for fairness and equality. Now they need our help to make sure the neediest citizens of the city aren't forced to pay an unfair and cruel price.
Today's victory means a great deal, coming after marriage equality losses in New York and Maine. The bill now goes to the Mayor Adrian Fenty, who has promised to sign it. The U.S. Congress then has 30 days to review the legislation. After that window passes, the bill becomes law!

Let’s have the IRS investigate Lieberman
While we are at it, let’s demand that the IRS investigate Joe the whore Lieberman and find out how much money he had deposited in his secret bank account(s) in Switzerland or Andorra. Before we strip him of all his lofty positions in the Committees he is in and launch a campaign to get him out of Congress. Lets investigate him for the next twenty years so that he doesn’t have the opportunity to spend any of it.

To the Insurance Companies Executives: Break out the champagne, let’s throw some confetti around in your corporate offices, you won and the American people lost.
Howard Dean was on “Countdown” last night and he said that he would vote against what is left of the legislation much to his chagrin. He has been one of the most ardent supporters of Health Care reform with a Public Option included. What we are getting, according to Governor Dean is no reform at all but a sweetheart deal for the Insurance Companies.
I am not impressed. I am not even tepidly in favor of this travesty that is being presented to the American People as Health Care reform. It is Insurance Company friendly and beneficial to them and only to them. There is nothing to gloat about here and as I say: pop the champagne and throw the confetti in those corporate headquarters.
