Why it’s the Republican Party….They know they made a big mess of things. Our previous President was an incompetent, inarticulate boob and almost everything he did caused us to be in this mess. The Republicans are unwilling to accept responsibility for their mistakes and their failures and are now trying to make President Obama and the Democrats own the mess.
Their agenda is rather perverse: to oppose everything the President tries to do and eventually he will fail which would bring them victories in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
If the economy does not improve fast enough, if unemployment continues in the double digits, if we don’t get any significant Health Care legislation or Energy program or Gay rights, then Republicans are going to blame Obama. So, what gives? Americans are going to have to be very clear who is America’s enemy, why are Republicans putting their party and their agenda before country and decency? That in my book is not patriotic, it is downright treason.
FILLED WITH HATRED?
I just received this e-mail which I think deserves a comment or two:
“Dear Raulito:
I couldn’t help but sense so much hatred on your part for Evangelicals and Republicans. Why don’t you just let it be…ignore them and you will be happier. Hatred never produced anything positive”
I will tell you why not:
In the first place, when it comes to Republicans, not only am I diametrically opposed to their ideology and their tactics, but I find that all those who reject me for what I am (an elderly, gay Hispanic) have made the Republican Party their home. Racism, xenophobia and homophobia are alive and well in the Republican Party. If someone is actively struggling to deny me of my rights and is doing so unashamedly and openly; then it is up to me to oppose it.
Furthermore, Republicans have hurt me personally in so many ways, I have lost my job in August of 2006 because of outsourcing and the Reagan initiative that encouraged companies to close shop in the United States and even gave them tax breaks and subsidies to do so. I further lost my pension because of the Wall Street failure last year due to the systematic elimination of regulations that kept banks and Wall Street in check. That money existed; my company matched dollar for dollar what I put in and somebody, maybe Bernie Maddof or some other fat cat got it so he can live in his house in the Hamptons in the lap of luxury and excesses. Then my house lost over one quarter of a million dollars in value since I bought it. I had my COBRA run out and now I am without health insurance. I am hoping I can make it eleven more months and get on Medicare, otherwise, if I get sick I will lose everything I have and will be living out of a cardboard box under a bridge.
When it comes to Evangelicals and Fundamentalist Christians it is pretty much the same reason. These are people who are openly striving to take away my rights and who want the law to officially give them carte blanche to discriminate against me. They make use of the Scriptures to justify their discrimination when the Scriptures are NOT THE WORD OF GOD; they are full of inconsistencies and ambiguities. It started as oral tradition handed down from father to son and eventually the Scriptures were written. Of course, in order for people to remember these things they were peppered with outlandish fairy tales and improbable events so that they could be impregnated in the minds of these rather primitive humans. Then there is the issue of translations, omissions, and additions. We know for a fact that Constantine eliminated almost half of the known Scriptures of his day. One good example is that before Constantine, the Church was performing same sex unions.
When it comes to Mormons, Jehovah’s Witness and other fringe religions, I have to put my foot down when they invade my territory. I don’t ask them to come to my door because they are trying to find validation. I find that they are harmful to society and a menace to the human race by proselytizing. If they chose to wallow in a mud puddle of ignorance and superstition, that would be ok with me, only don’t try to drag me there with them. I will stop my ranting against them when they stop their proselytizing.
And last, let me say this: the reason why all of these people have become so emboldened is because they have met no resistance and until there are enough folks like me who are not going to tolerate them, they will continue to hurt society. After all, in my case, I am not going to turn conservative any time soon, nor will I be invaded by the Holy Spirit and become a born again Christian. I don’t intend to go back in the closet and I demand to have the same rights as everyone else has. I don’t think that they are any better because they stick their dicks in a dirty cunt. As much as they try to humiliate me and attempt to make me feel “unworthy of the Lord” they are not going to succeed.
Eleanor Roosevelt said that “no one can humiliate you without your consent”
