Disaster is in the horizon with Supreme Court ruling

SUPREME COURT RULING – LONG TERM EFFECTS

By raulito

I am going to offer you a very plausible scenario that will take place once the initial and obvious short term effects of this erroneous Supreme Court ruling that allows corporations to spend unlimited funds on political campaigns.

Other than the obvious; which is that we will no longer have a Republican Party or a Democratic Party, the Tea baggers and Republicans are going to benefit in the short run. Yes, they will be able to overwhelm the whole political system and take over BOTH houses, the White House and all the Governor’s mansions. That is kind of self explanatory and can be debated as to whether it will happen in increments or in one decisive, all sweeping victory on Election Day.

What we are not even contemplating is the long term effect of such a change in our form of government and our political system. I am referring to the loss of choice, the elimination of citizen participation in a democratic process that will render individuals totally devoid of power.

If we analyze the failure of totalitarian systems such as the defunct Soviet Union, we can learn some lessons from it. In the old Soviet Union, the general population had such a collective feeling of helplessness against an all powerful, repressive and exclusive central government that it extinguished any possibilities of incentives or the will to do better or individual success. The whole society in the old Soviet Union was undermined by this pessimism and lack of incentive. Eventually it all caught up with them and it collapsed on to itself without much bloodshed and or any foreign intervention. (Reagan had nothing to do with it)

In America, our beloved country which has survived a very serious crisis of confidence, wars and the efforts of the very rich to enlarge their riches and their power is now facing yet a new insurmountable challenge. The emergence of a very formidable oligarchy.

The word oligarchy comes from two Greek words; oligo meaning few and arkhein meaning to rule. Hence, an oligarchy is a system of government that only includes certain segments of society, usually a very small one and excludes the general population.

Most everyone will agree that what has made America great other than the natural resources and the ingenuity of its people has been the creation and nurturing of a very large middle class that held in its ideology the concept of a participatory democracy and thus the great success in the American experiment. But all that began to dwindle, to be weakened by a pervasive influence peddling system that required special interests to invest large sums of money to pay for lobbyists to intervene on their behalf in order to secure favorable laws. Such was the massive activity in this endeavor that democracy was weakened because elected officials went to represent the voters and instead of acting on behalf of their constituents, they were loyal to the special interests and did what the lobbyists paid them to do.

That whole situation which had been decades in the making was bad enough. There were many efforts to correct this and a lot of campaign reform legislation and other measures were taken to make it a level field. What is so terrible about the rich and the corporations making their profits at the expense of a decimated middle class, you might ask? Very simple: if there is no middle class there is no purchasing power, no consumer demand and therefore no sales, no sales then thus no profits. The very rich and the Corporations are putting the noose on their own necks by destroying the middle class.

But now we have a game change. With the Supreme Court ruling all bets are off and we are going to see the beginning of the end. The result will be the end of America as a prosperous nation and the end of democracy as we have known it. Will it collapse under its own weight and because of the failures to have motivation and incentive for Americans? It most certainly will. How long will this take? No one can tell. But we are surely heading for disaster and those accomplices like the Supreme Court Justices that voted for this and the Republicans who are now applauding and gloating will have absolutely nothing to be proud of once this great country we call home wallows in the morass of a muddy cesspool called OLIGARCHY BY THE CORPORATIONS.
