Is Health Care a Human Right?
This is what Teresa Prisco wrote and managed to get published in the newspaper today:
It never ceases to amaze me the way some Republicans think. After reading a very twisted commentary on my local newspaper (The Sun Sentinel) this anti-anything Republican expresses the view that Health Care is not a Human Rights issue but one that has to be paid for.
She goes on ranting about how expensive it is, and how the system just needs some adjustments and it seems to her that it can take care of itself as long as those who need care and can’t afford it don’t get it; at least not by using tax payer’s funds. This dirt bag goes on to saying that the health care industry, hospitals and medicines exists to make a profit. Maybe she should consider that is exactly what is wrong. You should make a profit in any endeavor, but not an obscene profit. Since when did it become acceptable to hold people hostage using their health as a means to extortion?
What a bunch of crap. The United States is the only industrialized country that has no such thing as Universal health care. Other countries have managed to do the right and decent thing. But if Republicans call that SOCIALISM it becomes radioactive.
I say to Ms. Prisco it is all a matter of priorities. To most Republicans, it is more important to have obscene profits by Insurance and Pharmaceutical companies than the health of the American people. Then again, most Republicans would sell their own mothers for the almighty dollar.
And good and evil can also be relative: to a Lyon a gazelle is a good thing, to a gazelle a Lyon is an evil danger. To insurance companies the American public is a good thing; to us Americans, Insurance companies are evil.
This commentator goes on to the old tired song and dance about a welfare mother with children who can get sick and would receive very expensive treatment. WTF? What are we supposed to do? Le them die?
I would like to point out that this country had no qualms about going out and spending billions of dollars in an unnecessary and immoral war. They even lied to us and to the world to get us into it. Yet, these same people begrudge a single mother care for her children because “somebody has to pay for it”
Again, the logic still escapes me.
