Political myopic eye doctor now turned Senator Paul

It applies to religion and politics as well

Political Masturbation hit this Teabagger in the face when she lost the election

I consider myself a passionate supporter of progressive and liberal causes. It is also no secret that I am gay and will confront anyone who tries to deprive me of my rights; I will be even indignant and intolerant. But let us not confuse the issue here; that is being passionate because if someone comes along and shows me data, evidence, charts, proof or otherwise a reasonable explanation I am willing to listen.

On the other hand; those on the far right and those Fundamentalist Evangelicals are so closed minded that even if you hit them across the face with a two by four with evidence, facts and reason they will still reject it and embrace their ignorance and superstition. That in my book is being fanatical. When reason, logic, scientific proof, charts, evidence fail to convince someone that they are wrong that to me is fanaticism.

How can anyone for example, in this day and age still believe in Creationism when we have at our disposal and in plain view that the world is older than 6,000 years. The same holds true for the Republican-Teahadist ideology: “Government is the problem”, “Government is too big”, “Trickle Down Economics” and in general acting as the surrogates for the very rich and the corporations. But when you confront them with evidence that their ideology is flawed; when you show them facts and charts they still cling on to those askew ideas.Or when you tell Mormons their religion is fabricated and Joseph Smith was a con artist, a drunk and a misfit they will not listen.

What is detrimental to our society and the well-being of the American people is that these groups, both the Fundamentalist Evangelicals and the Teahadist-Republicans are not just hurting massive groups of people but they are destroying the nation in the process. That means a destruction of that very Constitution they so often claim to defend and love; that includes the annulment of democratic processes and the blatant disregard for the commonwealth.

So, I ask you: Are you a passionate person with an open mind or a fanatic with a closed one?

The Dear Leader Reagan still has a following even after most of his ideas have been proven wrong and his ideology debunked

At the very least prosecute them with the same vigor as you do undocumented immigrants.

And why not? Bankers and Wall Street speculators caused one of the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression. Their greed, lack of ethics, speculative neo-criminal actions have caused millions of people a lot of misery and sent our country into a precipitous fall to ruin while undocumented persons only work for peanuts and don’t do much harm to society.

President Bush and the Republicans thought it would be a good idea to bail out their buddies and they gave them billions of dollars, saving their asses and allowing them to part with very generous severance packages and bonuses…not prosecution which is what they deserve.

On the other hand, the racist element in our society is so threatened by us Hispanics that they are trying every way possible to humiliate, disenfranchise and if the case applies persecute and prosecute those without legal immigration papers. What a crock Republicans, you are a bunch of hypocrites and racist xenophobes. And yes, they are TAKING AWAY YOUR AMERICA because it wasn’t yours to begin with - it belongs to all of us, the people. The Constitution doesn’t say we the WASPHROMS (White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant, Heterosexual old men)

Next time you go on one of your persecution of Hispanics tirade just think that we are 50 million strong and we vote; right now I know that all these racist xenophobes are shitting in their pants after the census figures came out and we now know that Hispanics or Latinos numbers have increased over 40% to number 50 million. Oh, GOP-Teahadists, I forgot to tell you that Blacks, Gays, Seniors, Pro-choice women, Labor Union members and all the other minorities you have repudiated…they too vote.

Trees cocooned in spiders webs, an unexpected side effect of the flooding in Sindh, Pakistan

An unexpected side-effect of the flooding in parts of Pakistan has been that millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters.

Because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water has taken so long to recede, many trees have become cocooned in spiders webs. People in this part of Sindh have never seen this phenomenon before - but they also report that there are now less mosquitoes than they would expect, given the amount of stagnant, standing water that is around.

It is thought that the mosquitoes are getting caught in the spiders web thus reducing the risk of malaria, which would be one blessing for the people of Sindh, facing so many other hardships after the floods.

Of course, the trees don’t like it much and will die from light deprivation. So where does that leave the spiders? ….Dead, that is where they will be; then there will be more mosquitoes and more malaria.

Sure, you climate change deniers are going to say: “That is just an isolated incident” but dozens, hundreds, thousands, millions of isolated incidents make up the body of very convincing evidence.

Then climate change deniers will say: "Look at all the snow is not getting is getting colder...we have never had this much snow before"

Spider webs are incredible! Spider web material is about one-tenth the diameter of a human hair, but it has incredible strength. In fact it is ten times stronger than a steel strand of the same weight.

The dragline silk which makes up the spokes of the spider’s web is an amazing chemical design. Two proteins are used in these strands. Each protein contains three regions with distinct properties. The first takes a form that is called amorphous. An amorphous material is a plastic material like bubble gum that is stretchable. This is what gives the spider’s web its huge elasticity so when the spider’s prey hits the web, it stretches and does not break. Embedded in the amorphous material are two kinds of crystalline material. These crystalline materials toughen the web. They are tightly pleated and resist stretching, but only one of them is truly rigid. The pleats of the less rigid material anchor the rigid crystals to the matrix producing massive strength.

And yet, it is said that some of the webs on the trees have clumps of web with mosquitoes on them fall to the ground. Such is the amount of accumulation of those insects that it overwhelms even the web filaments themselves; and those are pretty strong it would be the equivalent of pulling a 20,000 locomotive with dental floss. And do you know how many mosquitoes it takes to make one pound?

It takes 400,000 mosquitoes to weigh a pound!

And you want the Local, State and Federal Government to put their seal of approval on your erroneous interpretation of the Scriptures?

I just want to know if I got this right…you actually want to legalize your agenda to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation? You really think that people who don’t insert their penises into vaginas are inferior, second class, immoral and deviates? You also think that they should be punished their pursuit of happiness denied and their sex lives criminalized because you have some absurd concept of passages from the Scriptures…most of which you reject or ignore and only cling on to the ones you like?

Well, I have news for you. We live in a secular nation; the Founding Fathers were very specific and insistent on establishing the concept of the SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. Contrary to what you think, this is not a Christian nation…albeit the majority living in it is of the Christian faith we still have FREEDOM OF RELIGION and FREEDOM FROM RELIGION. Basic human rights are not subject to popularity in the polls, to be put to a vote or denied just because it is a minority that is affected…America has a very robust concept that yes, majority rules but minorities have rights.

Marriage is not a heterosexual privilege and neither are human rights. There is no such thing as some rights granted and some denied on the basis of what you are and who you are. You either have full rights or you don’t. Perhaps you would be happier to live in a theocratic society like that of Iran…that would suit you just fine; after all, your religious fanaticism is no different than theirs...except your preacher hasn't asked you to strip a bomb on to your body and blow yourself up in a crowded subway or to fly a plane into a building...but give him time and he will have you doing that and also drinking arsenic laden Koolaid.

Now attacks on

Social Security are

coming from

all sides of

the aisle.

(so says the

Washington Post)

Never mind that the Social Security Program is solvent and will be so until the year 2038. It makes absolutely no difference to lawmakers either Republican-Teahadists or DINO’s. The Social Security hatch job is in their crosshairs.

As reported in the ultra-conservative WaPo's by Lori Montgomery This time over Social Security, where a vocal and powerful Senate leadership is saying "hands off" against those who have swallowed the austerity Kool-Aid; led by Harry Reid.

This asshat, poor excuse for a journalist writes: Meanwhile, Third Way, the centrist Democratic think tank, plans to release a memo Friday arguing that the deficit has emerged as an uncommonly powerful political issue and that 2012 voters will reward the party that takes bold action to restrain government spending — including overhauling Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

“In our view, Republicans are winning this fight,” the memo says, according to an advance copy provided to The Washington Post. “They are winning by taking on an issue that voters believe is serious; they are winning on candor; and they are winning by being on the side of reform. Democrats — who ran on change — are quickly becoming the status quo party on the budget.”

This appears to be the case, since the Post argues that Social Security benefits should be cut, that made no reference to the the trust fund. The article tells readers:

"Social Security is the single largest federal program, dispensing about $700 billion last year to nearly 60 million people, the vast majority of them retirees. Since the program’s creation in 1935, the cost of Social Security benefits has been entirely covered by payroll taxes paid by current workers. This year, however, payroll tax revenues are projected to fall $45 billion short of covering benefits, and the problem is projected to grow as the number of retirees balloons compared with the number of working adults."

The Post is now describing the repayment of the bonds held by the Social Security trust fund as a "problem," implying that it wants to default on these bonds. This is a strong position for a newspaper to take, especially in a news story.

It is worth noting that the interest and principle on the bonds held by the trust fund come primarily from the individual and corporate income tax. These taxes are progressive. This means that defaulting on the bonds, which are owed to the country's workers, would be a massive upward redistribution of income, since the wealthy could then pay less in taxes.

The Post has a long history of supporting policies that lead to an upward redistribution of income such as the TARP bank bailout, trade agreements like NAFTA that put downward pressure on the wages of ordinary workers, and stronger patent monopolies for drug companies. The policy of defaulting on the bonds held by the Social Security trust fund is consistent with this policy of redistributing income to nation's wealthy.*

Social Security Coalition Seeks Signatures on Pledge to Protect Retirement Program

By: David Dayen Monday August 9, 2010 12:53 pm

The coalition mobilizing to defeat any benefit cuts or privatization of Social Security has created a pledge that they will try to get members of Congress to sign during the August recess. Here is the pledge, in full:

Social Security belongs to the people who have worked hard all their lives and contributed to it. Social Security is a promise that must not be broken. If you pay in, then you earn the right to benefits for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children when you retire, experience a severe disability, or die.

We need to strengthen Social Security, not cut it. That is why I oppose any cuts to Social Security benefits, including increasing the retirement age. I also oppose any effort to privatize Social Security, in whole or in part.

The pledge, a sort of left-leaning answer to the Grover Norquist anti-tax pledge, will be presented to members of Congress at town hall events across the country.

The Strengthen Social Security coalition includes over 20 progressive groups, including the nation’s biggest labor unions, Political Action, Democracy for America, the Campaign for America’s Future, the NAACP, the National Organization for Women, the Economic Policy Institute, and more.

MoveOn, which has been among the most active in the Social Security fight in recent weeks, blasted out an email to their members asking them to sign the pledge, so they could put pressure on Democrats in Congress to do so. Last week, MoveOn started running ads against Steny Hoyer for his comments on raising the retirement age, and sent around a fact sheet about the myths surrounding Social Security.

To stop the cuts, we need to send a crystal-clear message to members of Congress: Americans reject benefit cuts, and we expect them to do the same. Can you sign our promise to oppose cuts to Social Security? We’ll use your signature to pressure them to sign a pledge protecting Social Security while they’re home for recess. But we need a strong response to make our point.

MoveOn’s shorter petition says, “I oppose any cuts to Social Security benefits, including raising the retirement age.”

Stat counter has stopped!

Looks like it flat-lined.

to anybody out there or it is isolated to my blogs only.

Since 8am today the STAT COUNTER has ceased to function. It got stuck at 1,079 and that is where it has stayed all day. I ordinarily get about 3,500 hits a day and today was only 1,079 and it seems from the looks of things that the new count which begins at 8pm EST reflects 0 hits.

Please let me know if this is happening

Most Americans are not stupid, they are just too busy trying to put food on their tables and keeping their jobs to pay attention to politics.

Curiously, some very disconnected, very ignorant individuals…and there are a lot of those; went ahead and vented their frustrations by going along with the special interests that facilitated the creation and organizing of the Tea Party. That is not to say that all Americans are stupid. It is just simply a matter of a very vocal bunch getting all the attention and those that don’t, those who are being affected and on the uninformed side can’t be awakened, persuaded that the cause of their woes is the Republican agenda.

As the traditional media mostly serve their corporate masters by distracting and obfuscating, people's perceptions can be changed. Their consciousness can be awakened. They may not have the time to research information that isn't easily available, but they don't ignore evidence that impacts their lives. The bad news is that it does seem to take evidence that impacts their lives to change their perceptions and awaken their consciousness as is the case in Wisconsin.

What this says is that people aren't stupid; they may be mostly be unaware; until awareness is forced on them. But that does raise the possibility that raising awareness might not necessitate crises. Consistent and persistent messaging might do it. If our ostensible political leaders would break through the media firewall and offer such messaging. It's about the overwhelming scientific consensus. It's also about using every opportunity.

By the same token, consistent and pervasive misinformation and lies can have an effect. You repeat a lie long enough and people begin to accept it as truth. The Republican-Teahadists are counting on that and they have used it to their advantage. To this day we have millions of people who believe that our President is a Muslim, not born in America and a secret Marxist/Socialist/Communist. We have people thinking that death panels are part of the Health Care Reform to this day and we even see ads on television with Mike Hucklebee urging us to join them and oppose Health Care Reform before irreparable damage is done to our Health Care System and a terrible blow to our economy. (yet the only ones who would benefit from repealing it would be the parasite insurance companies)

It just never ceases to amaze me how one by one, the Republican Party has been negatively affecting groups and organizations. They have discarded and hurt Blacks, Hispanics, Women, Seniors, Gays, Unemployed, Labor Unions, non-Evangelical-Fundamentalist Christians, Science, Education, the Arts and the list goes on…and who are they left with? Precisely my point; Republicans are not left with much to go on at this point.

It was during the Health Care debates in one of those now infamous TOWN HALL MEETINGS where the elected representative wanted to meet with people in his district and have a meaningful exchange of ideas and feedback from his constituents that this woman in the back of the room rose and tearfully went into a diatribe about how she was afraid and her voice cracking with anguish and pain declared “they are taking away my America”

I will not forget that although I have forgotten which Town Hall meeting it was and exactly when it happened because there have been so many others just like that encounter that it is all melding together into one big, incoherent message that resonates with Teahadists and which Republicans are not willing to repudiate.

It is one of the many askew and repugnant signs of that old ugly snake raising its head: the snake of racism, intolerance, xenophobia, homophobia and religious fanaticism. Only these Teahadists don’t really know it, they are sadly, too ignorant to realize that this is really the issue as they carry a flag with another snake that reads: “don’t tread on me”

To “take back America” from whom; take it back to where? I think that any of the Tea Baggers would be hard-pressed to answer those two basic questions. It is also one significant point that they want “LESS GOVERNMENT, SMALLER GOVERNMENT OR NO GOVERNMENT AT ALL”, they want “MORE FREEDOM”. And another one was: ‘LISTEN TO US”

It is then that you have to ask: Less government from what? From having regulations? Less government from interfering in our private sex lives? Less government to offer safety nets? What is it exactly what that less government entails?

You also question this mantra of “SMALLER GOVERNMENT” What in the hell are they talking about? “Government is too big” they will repeat like parrots. But our government is as big as it needs to be if you consider that we are arguably the number one super power in this world of ours. To have anything else is a defeatist, self-destructive outlook that would make our country a third rated, third world nation.

And then there is this beauty: “MORE FREEDOM” More freedom to do what? More freedom for whom? Are you now deprived of some freedom that you have to go out and carry a sign protesting that deprivation? Is there some freedom you stand to lose if your Tea Bag Party does not win? I dare say NO.

I would also like to say to these Teahadists: I will start LISTENING TO YOU when you have SOMETHING TO SAY.

We got them, now it is up to you to debunk them.

Religion is not for me; I make no bones about it. I am not a Christian, yet I hold some Christian values a lot more zealously than most Christians. I don’t believe that the Bible is the word of God, I think of it as a series of documents meant to either scare people or to subdue them to the will of organized religion. Most of it makes no sense to me; being a rational and pragmatic man…I put in question the fact that because we don’t have the intelligence or the capacity to understand our origins and the scale of the universe…that we should turn around and make up explanations, construct fairy tales, fabricate stories that are totally outrageous.

In my opinion, religion is nothing more than a business…a very profitable one as anyone in the God enterprise can tell you…or not…because they are no different than movie theaters…with the difference being that the movie theater doesn’t pretend that what the entertainment they are showing you will gain God’s favors and grant you admission into an imaginary place called heaven; nor do movie theaters tell you that if you don’t go to the movies every Sunday you will burn in hell.

But there is a whole new crop of self anointed messengers of God, a spanking new set of religious fanatics that claim to have direct contact or divine inspiration…which to me spells delusional. We see how they manipulate those who are pious or unwilling to think for themselves. These are the “sheep” that need a “pastor” to guide them. Curiously, these are the same everywhere…they exist in every culture and they are only a step away from flying a plane into a building or giving their children and themselves a dose of arsenic laden Kool Aid.

My main point here is that if given a choice, if heaven and hell existed and those self anointed prophets are in heaven…I seriously question how good heaven is or if it is even a place I like to be. I can’t picture myself in the company of Pat Robertson, Oral Roberts, Glen Beck or Mike Hucklebee. I am curious as to how God feels about these people…would God actually put his/her seal of approval on what they are doing? I think not.

I seriously question whether some of these people really think that they have a direct line to God. If they did, they would not be doing what they are doing…and there is plenty of money behind this “God told me” crap…Glenn Beck would not be making 32 million a year or Sarah Palin would not have turned a failed, half term governorship into millions of dollars.

But who are we kidding here? When they claim this divinity, this exclusive link to God they can manipulate those stupid enough to be willing to listen to them and believe what they are saying…after all, who can argue with God? Who can oppose anything they say if it comes from God?
