Corporations are people my friend…and so are fetuses that are
not viable outside of the womb.
But that is not where it stops…they go even further to
declare that a fertilized egg is a HUMAN BEING. That is the most preposterous
concept that any politician could come up with…not just because it is contrary
to scientific evidence but because it is also an attack on women’s reproductive
rights.
However, we should not make the mistake in assuming that
abortion rights and gay rights are the most important issues in the upcoming
2012 elections because they are not. The Republicans are throwing these out there
in the hopes that they will confuse and mislead Americans and distract them
enough to take their minds away from the fact that we are fighting to get out
of a recession that they got us into and also to the narrative that they have
done nothing to help create jobs.
That coupled with the obstructionist tactics, their
downright sabotage of anything that the President has tried to do to help the
American people, translates into a blatant attack on the middle class and the
poor. The Republicans may want to mask it and apply distraction but that is
what it amounts to: the solidification of a plutocracy with the obligatory
perks in the form of tax breaks and subsidies going to the very wealthy.
I am placing my hopes in the astuteness and intelligence of
the American people who seem to see right through all this. There is hope for
America.
