Should we allow a small minority of religious fanatics dictate
to the rest of America their perceived morality, their disdain for gays and to
define marriage according to their narrow minded views of the Scriptures?
I
should think not; it is incumbent upon all of us to put the foot on the brake
pedal, it is absolutely necessary that we flick the turn indicators off from veering
into a hard right turn. This is the time for us to express our displeasure with
these minorities who dictate to us what they think is moral according to their
erroneous interpretations of the Scriptures.
There should be no vacillation as to what our country is
about, how we define ourselves rather than having a group of religious fanatics
defining it for us.
Make no mistake about it, the upcoming elections are going
to be centered on social issues; ignoring the real harsh realities of
unemployment and the unfair redistribution of wealth. It is an old trick of
Republicans to energize their base and to mislead those who are either gullible
or too naïve to not question their tactics. It is basically a trap, a scare
tactic and it is the ultimate travesty performed against the American people.
To say
that somehow people who are gay are flawed, have flawed personalities it also
has the implication that it is some kind of an affliction, an illness, if you
will. The religious fanatics will even try to apply brain washing and “reparative
therapy” which amounts to a lot of crap because those who are either forced by
circumstances, or family, or peer pressure to participate, they will never be
heterosexual but rather sexually frustrated individuals who will never have a
chance at fulfilling one of the most basic of human needs…that of to be able love and
being loved. You can’t repair what isn’t broken…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix
it!
They
will argue with you until they are blue in the face and foaming at the mouth that
it is based on a two-thousand year old tradition, that it is harmful to
families and to society because it breaks down the moral fiber of our nation.
This of course is bull shit since traditions are fleeting things that people do
only because their parents and grandparents did them but not because it makes
sense. It is kind of fashion only it lasts a little longer than the latest
Pravda or Buitton clothes or luggage line.
If being gay is a
choice, then when did you decide to become straight?
