WE WERE CREATED DIFFERENT

  BUT WE ARE ALL EQUALS UNDER THE LAW

Of the six-plus billions of humans traveling as passengers in this spaceship we all call Earth, there are no two alike; just as you will not find two snowflakes exactly alike in the trillions that fall from the skies each year; similar, yes, but not an exact replica.

The differences can be interesting and at the same time give us reason to celebrate this natural diversity. There are some drawbacks associated with certain features; for example: I can’t play baseball because I have no eye-hand coordination. By the same token I suck at basketball because that is one game that taller people are able to play better. A person who is only four feet tall may have troubles driving as they have difficulty reaching the pedals; being a bus driver for them might be difficult. Or a very overweight person may not fit into a miniscule airplane seat. I may not be able to play billiards but I can paint a beautiful landscape in oils or I have been known to entertain a group of people singing a delightful song. But these are the differences that make us humans unique and that is something for which we should all be rejoicing.

Each and every one of us has something to contribute to that ‘MELTING POT” and into that savory stew goes a carrot here, an onion there and a few morsels of meat and we all make it that much more savory and delicious, it is the nourishment that sustains us and makes us grow.

But a very curious thing happens with us human beings. In our quest for validation and the need to be accepted or belonging to a “group”; we go out of our way to conform. We even resort to adding features to ourselves that would facilitate entrance and acceptance into those groups. We see how if we wear a certain garment that everyone wears all of a sudden we are “cool”. If we belong to some religious group we strive to be more like each other and conform to the traditions of dress and speech of that particular group.

Of course, the religious organizations as well as the political and economic interests exploit this aspect of stupid human behavior. Some religions require that we wear a certain garment like a hat or a piece of cloth, the business world requires a certain dress code such as dark suits and ties for men. (can you think of a more useless piece of cloth or garment that a tie?) But once you shed human beings of their outer clothing they are basically all similar and if you look closely, no two are exactly alike, not even identical twins.

So what is all this bullshit about “WHITE SUPREMACY”? Do these people really think that they are somehow better than other human beings? Or sexuality supremacy? Are men superior than women? Being born on this or the other side of a body of water makes you better? If your skin has less pigmentation does that mean your brain capacity is outstanding? Does inserting a penis into a vagina make you eligible to enter heaven?

The Declaration of Independence says: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, etc.”
 
As much as I admire and embrace that precious document and relish the thoughts and words in it, I can’t help but think that perhaps it is a bit inaccurate in that all men are not created equal, it actually should say: “ALL MEN ARE CREATED DIFFERENT BUT ARE EQUALS UNDER THE LAW” if you wanted to split hairs and be more specific.
