WE ALL LOVE A CINDERELLA STORY

But the Cinderella in the fairy tale never lost her humility and her goodness once she caught her prince

I am bringing this up in this post because a relative of one of my daughters made a very poignant and disturbing comment to one of them: “Oh, that Obama guy, we have to get rid of him”
The first thing that comes to my mind is that both her mother and father were immigrants, her dad waited on tables while her mother worked in a factory. She went on to college and became a teacher but soon she had to give that up because of the low salary, the large class sizes and the dismal working conditions.
Now she has a lofty job, one that pays her three figures and I rejoice for her in that fact but to betray her mother and father and the very people she is still part of is reprehensible.
I too have a relative who was the daughter of immigrants, her father sold newspapers in the New York subway for a living while her mom worked as a seamstress. She married a high school sweetheart and had a child. He was sent off to war and came back a basket case as well as hooked on drugs. She divorced him and then tried to raise her child as a single mom. It wasn’t easy, I am certain.
That ended when she met a wealthy client of the firm she worked for and he fell madly in love with her. They married and she gave him a daughter. All that is a wonderful Cinderella story up until this point.
You see, her hubby is a Wall Street speculator, one of those vulture capitalists who doesn’t give a shit about the little people and my relative has now become just like him and proudly announces her membership in the Republican Party…because “the slovenly slobs don’t know how it works, they just don’t understand and are incapable of governing themselves”
So it is off to the Hamptons with them to attend one of Mitt Romney’s fundraisers…I don’t know which nor do I give a shit, but I would like for her to look back and remember where she came from.
