GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE – DOS AND DON’T – CAN YOU SAY CONFORMITY?

1 (7).jpg
With the upcoming elections there has been a lot of fodder about how much and how far government should interfere into our lives.

Government interference encompasses all activities and practices, all vices and preferences, all habits and risky behavior and yet there is a segment of the population that seems to be more concerned about making others do as they do, think as they think, practice what they deem correct while ignoring the more important roles of government: to prevent unfairness, to administer justice, to defend the country and to preserve Democracy and its freedoms.

But we find that as a nation we are too willing and ready to force others to accept a set of values and beliefs, an accepted and oftentimes healthy lifestyle; but by doing so we as a community insist in making others adhere by the prevailing standards and accepted behavior.
It is true that as a culture there are a myriad of things we could not possibly tolerate; among them is crime or killing, taking what is not yours, imparting harm on others and things that are just common sense if we are to survive as a species; we know that if I kill your brother you’re going to come back and kill mine, we have “THE GOLDEN RULE” as one of our universally accepted values.
But what we don’t have is restrain, respect for other people’s choices or opinions, honoring the individual’s personal choice, preference and even their own sexual orientation that is born with them. I couldn’t very well require those straight people to practice homosexuality any more than I could teach evolution in their churches, so why do they insist in forcing their beliefs on me?
When I look at the laws that require motorcyclists to wear helmets it baffles me. We know damn well that riding a bike is dangerous and riding one without a helmet is taking a big risk…but should you have an accident while riding a bike and you are wearing a helmet you might survive but might be paraplegic for the rest of your life.
Most people die of catastrophic illnesses unless they are killed in a car accident or other. To say that someone who has an unhealthy lifestyle costs the society money is highly questionable. I see how people who live healthy lifestyles outlive others to the point of becoming a burden to society. They may collect Social Security and use services for twenty or thirty years longer than those who precede them in their demise…and at the end, that person who lived a healthy life will also have a devastating, catastrophic illness that will be costly just as it is for the one who died three decades before.
Take for example homosexuality, for the longest time religions have opted to use it as a rallying point to maintain their stranglehold on their power. Being gay at some point in the history of mankind was not looked upon as evil as it is today. But the majority insists in forcing that minority to practice a specific kind of sexual behavior and in doing so the individual is then deprived of any chance at sexual fulfillment or happiness.
The argument that homosexuality is harmful only holds water if the society is intolerant and it criminalizes it, we see it in the Muslim countries where people are summarily and arbitrarily executed for just the suspicion of being gay. There are of course health risks as well with practicing unprotected sex but then again, it is something that cannot be legislated because to do so would be imposing a tyrannical edict on a minority.
We see how cities ban certain size of soft drinks because of the health concerns, how some communities prohibit any kind of erotic establishments or even prostitution. Yet, these very communities and their leaders hypocritically engage in all forms of forbidden practices.
You have something like smoking…albeit it being a dirty, unhealthy habit, it is the habit of the smoker and it is his/her choice. But all across our land we have seen smoking so vilified as to not only making it unaffordable but also criminalizing it. We did have something similar in the thirties with alcoholic beverages and it brought about extreme organized crime activities as does the criminalization of drugs today.
I really don’t see the logic or the reason why if I was the owner of a bar or restaurant and I place a sign on the entrance of the establishment that reads: “SMOKING ESTABLISHMENT, ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK” that I should be prohibited from running such a business. It is my business, it is the patron’s choice to go in it…if you don’t like smoking…don’t visit the place.
What about nudity? I know that some prudish bunch of people think that it is the function of government to prevent such practice but I have to come clean here in favor of nudist camps and other establishments. What if I own a restaurant and make it clothing optional? Is there any logical reason not to allow it? If those patronizing my restaurant agree to enter it and take off their clothes that is their prerogative.
Gay marriage runs along the same lines: if you don’t like gay marriage, don’t marry someone of your own sex. The point here is that there are a lot of people readily accepting the role of government as a way to make others conform, to impose a certain form of sexual behavior, to patrol our bedrooms, to interfere with the right of a woman to make her own health and reproductive decisions all the while obliterating all regulations and services that are the legitimate function of government.
The way I see it, according to some large segment of our population, the government should not just tolerate stealing, cheating, misleading, hurting others but insist in our government being complicit in doing so. Just like Christianists insist in having government promote their religion.

I’M 83 AND I’M TIRED –BILL COSBY

I always thought of Bill Cosby as an intelligent, reasonable and wise person…now I have my doubts if this e-mail I received was actually written by him. From the sounds of it to me it looks like any ordinary Ayn Rand, radical ultra right conservative rant. Here is my rebuttal:
I am 67 and I am tired too, tired of people like Bill Cosby being tired and the hopelessness they preach.

I am tired of Evangelicals, Fundamentalists, Mormons, Catholics, Muslims and other religious fanatics telling me how to live my life, passing judgment and forcing me to think that I am somehow flawed, deficient, sinful, worthless and abnormal.
Like you Mr. Cosby, I have been working since I was eleven years old. I never frittered away my money, I was frugal and played by the rules. Then some Wall Street fat cat saw fit to take my retirement money away. I am tired of a system that rewards people like Mitt Romney or Bernie Madoff for what is basically stealing from the poor and giving to the rich…I am tired of VULTURE CAPITALISM.
I am tired of all religions, not just Muslims. I am sorry you see fit to only go against the Muslims but the Christianists are just as bad if not worse because they are hypocrites…and they would harm other humans as we have seen in their “CRUSADES, HOLLY WARS, THE INQUISITION and PROTECTING DEMOCRACY” all the while here at home making people like you Mr. Cosby…sit at the back of the bus or drink from a filthy water fountain. If you want to live in a theocracy you might consider moving to one of those countries.
I am tired of religious fanaticism and make no mistake about it…there is not one iota of difference between the Christian radical religious fanatic and the Muslim or the Orthodox Jew…the only difference is that the clerics have not asked them to strap a bomb on themselves or fly a plane into a building…but given time Mr. Cosby…they will as the will readily drink the Kool-Aid a la Jim Jones.
I am tired of people like you who think that the wealthy don’t have to spread the wealth and who will argue until they are blue in the face that “TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS” works.
No, I don’t believe that people are basically lazy or underachievers…most of them are not and if the super wealthy and corporations have opted to keep everyone poor so they can have cheap, obedient labor then you Mr. Cosby are so fucking wrong. It is not “SPREADING THE WEALTH” Mr. Cosby, it is requiring, demanding that the wealthy pay their fair share.
I am tired Mr. Cosby of people like you telling Saudi Arabia how to spend the oil money they get from us. If you resent this so much, why don’t you work towards promoting, building and depending on wind and solar energy? Would that not deny the oil rich countries our hard earned dollars?
You are tired of Muslims not allowing Christians to build churches in their countries…well, will you allow me to teach EVOLUTION in Christian churches?
And you Mr. Cosby say that you are tired of lowering your living standards to avoid global warming…I have news for you…you not only will be tired but probably dead and so will your children and grandchildren from the pollution and the climate change that will bring about weather related catastrophes…and all for what Mr. Cosby?  So that the oil companies continue to make obscene profits?
So you are tired of drug addicts Mr. Cosby? Drug addiction is no different than any other illness and as a matter of fact, it serves a very useful purpose: by carrying on this “WAR ON DRUGS” you and people like you are supporting and promoting a cottage industry…a very profitable one where hundreds of thousands of cops, lawyers, judges are making a pretty good living out of those drug addicts when all that money could be spent in treatment and education.
I am tired of people like you and Mr. Romney telling us that we are wrong in having a “sense of entitlement” because in reality Mr. Cosby…we are entitled…we the seniors who paid into Social Security, we're the vets who put our lives on the line to defend our country and even those who were born with some handicap…they too are entitled…or are you and your Republican Party just going to disenfranchise them like you are doing with voting and throw them out in the streets to live under bridges?
Mr. Cosby…you obviously don’t like tats or piercings…but who the fuck are you to tell anybody what to do with their bodies? Who do you think you are to tell women their reproductive organs don’t belong to them but to the government? You Mr. Cosby are passing judgment and that is something I am tired of
Yes Mr. Cosby, I too am damn tired…fucking damn tired of people like you…but unlike you, I have a different outlook…you see, I lived all of my life striving to leave this world a little better than I found it. I have two daughters who are liberal progressives like myself and long after I am gone they will still carry on my legacy…and I am tired but not so tired that I can’t fight assholes like you.

This is the e-mail that Bill Cosby wrote that is now circulating in the net:

"I'm 83 and I'm Tired"

I'm 83. Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my National Service, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly
40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy
to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight
offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the
genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand, UK , America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses
or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 83.. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and their children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not
on the way in.

There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us
sends it on!

This is your chance to make a difference.
This last two lines in red is what gets me…you are a piece of shit if you don’t pass this Bill Cosby e-mail and will miss your chance to make a difference….well, I’m passing it on and pointing out how askew and repugnant it is.

" I'm 83 and I'm tired. If you don't forward this, you
are part of the problem".

Note from your blogger:
We have discovered that this e-mail was not sent by Bill Cosby but by some right-wing fanatic with the purpose of further dividing us and promoting hatred for the President. It turns out that Bill Cosby is a solid supporter of President Obama. Nice try you despicable right wing human phlegm.

5 AM – TRUE FRIENDS

POPE AGAINST SAME SEX MARRIAGE IN FRANCE

What the Pope is saying is that the family is "threatened in many places by a faulty conception of human nature,"
I wonder why he didn’t mention anything about the clergy sexually abusing children…I guess that is not a threat.

THE DECLINE OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (Posted Sunday, June 6, 2010)

AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS IN SHAMBLES
HOW LOW HAVE THEY FALLEN
The Catholic Church has traditionally been a great stumbling block to progress and to man’s ability to obtain knowledge. It has been common knowledge that the Church not only opposed any kind of admission of being in error, they claimed complete and total infallibility, beginning with the head of the Church.
The infallibility and great power of the Pope has been at the crossroads of great debates and he has invariably pulled the strings to quell and even extinguish any and all opposition to his absolute power.
We are now at it again but this time the general population is totally disgusted with the Church and their efforts to silence and to avoid any criticism in the many cases of pedophilia that have surfaced in the past couple of decades.
What gives? Are those priests totally immune to prosecution and will continue to act with impunity as the church merely transfers them to another parish and just sweeps the scandal under the carpet either by hush money or by pressure to the media and to those in power. But it seems that is not going to last very long. The folks involved are not staying quiet and the general public is just fed up with the impunity.
Presently we are seeing how the Pope himself has been in the center of the controversy, rightfully or not so deservedly you might say. But he is and we have to deal with it and they have to deal with it. But judging from history and the way that the Church has always responded, it does not seem that they are willing to accept responsibility: instead, we have seen how some of these Church mouthpieces have attempted to divert the anger towards homosexuals and are trying to make scapegoats out of the gays.
My message to the Church: It is not going to work this time, you better fucking own it and turn those pedophiles over to justice or the anger and resentment is going to cause the further erosion of an already dwindling religion. The days of the INQUISITION are over.
Which gives validation to my point that the Catholic Church has no credibility when it comes to opposing same sex marriage.
