DEBT CEILING, WHAT THE TEA BAGGERS WANT

THE IDEOLOGY BEHIND CONSERVATISM AND TEA BAGGERS

It is always surprising to me to analyze the way these people’s brains (or the lack of them) work. You hear their chanting, read their protest signs and time and time again you ask yourself: WTF?

No more taxes, smaller government, no government interference with business and commerce, eliminate or privatize Social Security and Public Education, eliminate all regulations for Wall Street and the Oil Companies, repeal Health Care, State’s rights, Christian Nation.

One by one I think and analyze what it would look like, what it would mean. No more taxes: Who is going to be paying less taxes? Is it going to be the poor and the middle class or the rich and the corporations? The way it is right now I think the rich and the corporations have a pretty sweet deal. And then if there are no taxes, how are we to eliminate our deficit, our national debt?

Smaller government: What is it that makes our government BIG? Is it the size of it or is it commensurate with such a large, prosperous country? When they say less government, do they mean NO GOVERNMENT like in Somalia? If there is a smaller government, would we still maintain a big military? Would the United States still would attempt to maintain a leading role in the politics of the world? Why is the United Nations such a contentious issue for these people?

Are we to be isolationists? If we are then we would have to divorce ourselves from international commerce and the global economy. That is something that comes through clearly. We could easily see an invasion of South Korea by the North Koreans, we would have to stand idle as Israel is pushed into the sea, we would have to allow the Taliban to re-take Afghanistan and so on...why with no military and no way to pay for it a lot more awful things could happen.

No government interference, less regulations: What that says to me is a return to the erratic and perilous behavior that caused the Great Depression and the economic crisis we are just beginning to overcome…have we not learned anything from this?

Then again it was the lack of regulations and the pervasive corruption that existed in the Oil Exploration and drilling that caused the largest catastrophe in our nation’s history…are we to allow the oil companies to do their own policing and take the necessary precautions?

Eliminate or privatize Social Security: I can only think what would happen to older Americans who have no other income. That monthly check is what separates them from living and dying. I can also think of what would happen to myself…I would then become a burden to my daughters and their children…going back to the times when grandparents and older folks had no options other than going to live with their offspring and rely on their generosity, their hospitality and their financial investment in an elderly parent. But many people don’t have that option…would they then have to live like the homeless out of a cardboard box under a bridge? Does that sound like a civilized society to you?

The elimination of public education: This to me spells oligarchy, exclusive education, the falling behind of the masses, only those who are privileged would be educated…and the rest would not even be functional, they would be illiterate boobs just barely living, without dreams and aspirations.

Then you would also have the country as a whole falling behind in the world as we can’t meet the challenges of technology because our citizens are just not educated, they don’t have the skills.

Repeal Healthcare: In other words, it is perfectly acceptable to these people that we would spend 17% of our GNP on health care for our citizens, with a totally irrelevant middle man as the insurance companies are, who perform no useful role nor do they contribute anything to the common good but take, skim and downright blackmail Americans who will continue to pay up the ass for care that is second rate as compared to the rest of the industrialized world.

Why are these Republicans so intent in maintaining the status quo? Are any of these Tea Baggers really those who own the insurance companies or their CEOs who live in the lap of luxury in their Hamptons homes?

I guess that what bothers me the most is the racist overtones. The signs these people carry clearly reflect resentment for a black President. It is almost bordering on treason on their part. They do not accept him and they are longing for the good old days when WASPHs (WHITE ANGLO-SAXON PROTESTANT HETEROSEXUALS) were the privileged, the ones who had all the power and wealth. When they say: “We are the Tea Party and we are taking our government back” or when they go into town hall meetings and cry: “they are taking away my America” what they really mean is that our country is more diverse now and those WASPHs are feeling the effect of being in the minority for the first time.

And yet, with their demands for less, smaller government and less interference, it is not just acceptable but imperative that the government goes into our bedrooms and become the moral police. I suppose that the country can go to hell and the economy into a downward spin because there are no regulations but as long as there is prayer in the schools, illegal abortion and persecution of GLBT everything is going to be ok…after all, they will eventually make it a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as that between a man and a woman and that homosexuality is an ABOMINATION and declare this country a Christian Nation officially…a theocracy if you will.

But I have news for those Tea Baggers, this is not THEIR AMERICA, this is EVERYBODY’S AMERICA”.

If you only knew how insecure I feel about my writing. To start I am not a native English speaker, to continue I didn't do so well in my English classes while in college. I just write about the things I feel strongly about and if there are some major flaws in my writing...so be it, it is the message that counts.

But thanks for the vote of confidence
