IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO YOU IF 40 MILLION PEOPLE DON’T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE?
As you probably know by now, my mom passed away last January 31st after a fall. I have been dealing with her care and the prospect of not surviving, after all, she was 97 years old and younger people go through this and don't make it; if she did it would be rare.
But
I can also tell you that dealing with hospitals and doctors and a
horrible healthcare system that is hell bent on making a profit as they ignore the patient's needs leaves me distraught and disappointed.
The initial care she received right after her accident was outstanding; it was done at Memorial Regional in Hollywood and I have nothing but praises for them and their staff. The issue comes after where the doctor wanted to send her to a facility that is notorious for their lack of compassion, overworked nurses with an unreasonable nurse-patient ratio and one place that has a bad reputation for bed sores and patients dying covered in feces. I realize that my mom is not going to make it, I am not in denial...but
I also want her to be comfortable and die with a reasonable amount of
dignity. I don't think that in many health care facitlities in this
country that is possible given the dismal state of our healthcare in
general.
When
the insurance coverage runs out and the burden falls on Medicare the
diminishing options hit you like a ton of bricks. I attribute that to
the opposition to Medicare itself that many people have...particularly
Republicans who want to do away with it altogether and who time and time
again deprive it of funds to sabotage it so it fails like all the other safety nets.
Let
me get this straight…you think that Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid
and Public Education are but Socialist Endeavors and because they are
not specifically mentioned in the Constitution they should not
exist…done away with, privatized, eliminated…the government should not
have these things…that is SOCIALISM? The hell with older people who are on their last legs...profit is more important...right?
Alan Greyson I think expressed it well when he said that Republicans just want you to hurry up and die if you are sick.
And you
claim to be a Christian too? Before there was Social Security America’s
elderly used to die from starvation and neglect. Even today most seniors
live way below the poverty level that the rest of us think would be
unacceptable and extreme hardship. And your answer is: “Well, they
should have saved for their old age, they should have put some away for
their golden years”….Listen douche bags; some of us did, we had 401Ks
and Pension Plans and the Wall Street FAT CATS took it away from us.
Besides haven’t you heard that a great many people in America live from
paycheck to paycheck? And do you know why that is?
Because it is good
for business to have unemployment and low wages…they can advertise for a
job opening and have one hundred applicants. Do I need to say more?
It
doesn’t bother you that Insurance Companies have been denying care to people for
pre-existing conditions? They could drop your policy if you are sick and
eating into their profits. And there should not be any government
regulations or interference so that this doesn’t happen? What about when
you get old, particularly when you get old more ailments are surfacing
and since your only income is Social Security you can’t even afford to
take care of a sickness that is both preventable and curable; so you
die. And this doesn’t face you in the least?
Of
course not…you are a proponent of a pure free enterprise system…less
government, smaller government, less regulations. After all, Social
Security and Medicare are not specifically prescribed by our forefathers
in our Constitution. But then again, neither is an Air Force. Think
about it…think about not calling yourself a Christian any more either
because Charity and taking care of your fellow human being is one of the
most important characteristics of the Christian philosophy. You really don't give a shit about people like my mom or me because she is sent there to die, to a place that is like a warehouse of the terminally ill to receive minimum health services in order for them to make a profit out of Medicare. I don't think that you would want to place your mom in a healthcare facility like that.
Of
course you want no regulations either…no FDA, no consumer protection,
nothing that would interfere with the free market system. Let Wall
Street and the banks operate freely, allow them to make their own
adjustments and decide what is best for the economy…after all these
industries would take care of themselves…they can and will choose
the right thing to do, they can police themselves. Or can they?
Does
the Stock Market Crash of 1929 ring a bell? How about the one in 2008?
What about the misery and hardship we are still going through right now
due to precisely the systematic elimination of regulations that got us
into this mess? With the Constitution being very specific that the
President only spends the money that Congress votes to spend, that
it is a debt that has to be paid or risk being a dead-beat nation, what
sense does it make to hold the American people hostage and put the
economy of the U.S. and the world at risk unless Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are eliminated.
But no…I have to read the Constitution. It is not there
therefore it is unconstitutional…You Tea Bagger Republicans are either
not very smart or totally devoid of compassion.
