The misguided belief against blood transfusions

These fabricated and weird cults can only be described as sects for the extreme absurdities and their illogical ideology. Oftentimes they are very harmful to society and lethal to its followers as was the case with those who followed Jim Jones and their demise from mass suicide in Guyana.

But make no mistake about it, these other fringe religions are not all that different…than those fundamentalist Muslims and Christians only they have not yet reached a point where their pastors or leaders have asked them to fly a plane into a building, strap a bomb on themselves and blow themselves up or take arsenic laden Kool-Aid - just give them time and they will. Yet, some are doing some things ten times more hideous and repulsive as is the case with the Jehovah’s Witness and their stupid policy of not allowing blood transfusions.

Not only is it illogical because as we all know there are different types of blood groups and should you get one that is not compatible with your own it could have lethal consequences…but science has evolved and progress made and that is no longer a problem nor an argument for receiving or giving blood. But these fanatics cling to some obscure passage of the Scriptures and will carry it to the maximum of consequences: the death of one of their own offspring or a relative.

"The day's news tells of a mother who sacrificed six ounces of her blood in a transfusion for her baby girl. Strange that the busy press should even consider this news. A mother who wouldn't consent to a blood transfusion for her child would be much greater news, and the world a sorry place indeed on the day that such news is found!" -- Columnist Allene Sumner, in 1926.

“Since the WatchTower Society first stopped Jehovah's Witnesses from accepting blood transfusions in 1945, there has been a stream of state and federal court cases which have slowly but surely chipped away at the moral concept that to allow an adult or child to needlessly die inside a hospital setting is something unconscionable to our modern society. But, such has nearly been completely accomplished, thanks to the tireless efforts of the WatchTower Society's Legal Department.

The law in the United States regarding Jehovah's Witnesses and their refusal to accept blood transfusions is somewhat settled, although subject to exceptions. Most competent adults have the constitutional right to refuse to accept a blood transfusion, even if such refusal means they will die. Every year in the United States, an unknown number of adult Jehovah's Witnesses exercise their constitutional right to choose death over a life-saving blood transfusion. For every account of such death that is reported by the news media, there are an unknown number that go unreported due to confidentiality rules that restrain medical and hospital staff from releasing the fact that a death was due to the deceased's refusal to accept a blood transfusion.

Jehovah's Witness Parents will attempt to impose the same "death decision" on their minor children, but practically every hospital will attempt to obtain a court order which will permit them to administer medically necessary blood transfusions over the parent's objections -- assuming that the Jehovah's Witness Child is still alive by the time all the legalities are completed. Courts in the United States will nearly always appoint a temporary legal guardian under such circumstances to oversee and guarantee necessary medical care.

Scenarios involving pregnant Jehovah's Witnesses Mothers and their "fetuses", Jehovah's Witnesses Minors nearing the age of majority, and adult Jehovah's Witnesses who have parental obligations, are less settled, but are heading in the anticipated direction.

One of the benefits of studying the decades-long stream of court cases which have gradually given Jehovah's Witnesses the legal rights they now have regarding blood transfusions is learning about and understanding how during this decades-long process, the Jehovah's Witnesses have shared ideals and legal precedents with other groups which had common legal causes and interests.

For instance, the continued fight for legalization of abortion shares some of the same arguments as does the continuing blood transfusions issue as it relates to "unborn children", or as Jehovah's Witnesses prefer to label them when arguing such court cases -- "fetuses". Legal precedents have been shared by both groups. Opening the way to reject blood transfusions opens the way for other life-saving medical procedures to be refused. Right-to-die and assisted suicide advocates share some common arguments with the Jehovah's Witnesses. One can't help but wonder if and how often attorneys from some of these groups assisted the others with their own causes in order to help their own cause.

Another "light bulb" that finally came on during this legal study answered my decades-long curiosity as to why there were enclaves of Jehovah's Witnesses scattered around the United States who were adamant supporters of the midwife industry. Now, I know. One can only wonder how many hundreds, or possibly even thousands, of Jehovah's Witness newborns who needed a blood transfusion to survive died because their birth occurred outside a hospital setting. One can only wonder how many Jehovah's Witness families with known genetic problems, such as Rh factor incompatibility, repeatedly had baby, after baby, after baby, as those parents simply played a numbers game waiting for one to eventually survive. The evidence is inside.”

The homophobic religious organizations will still be able to discriminate legally

The provisions of the New York marriage equality legislation still allows for religious organizations to be immune to legal action if they discriminate. They can continue to spew their hatred, their attempts to humiliate gay Americans, to ostracize those within their ranks if they are gay; these religious fanatics don’t realize that while they can still give their gay offspring a big guilt trip and cause them a lot of harm, they now can’t push their fucking intolerance on the rest of us. So, shut the fuck up and go back to your pews to listen to your homophobic preacher’s homophobic vitriol and one who probably just gave a blow job at a public tea room before church and let the rest of America enjoy what our Constitution prescribes: EQUALITY.

Why do religious fanatics hate science so much then?

While there are gaps and unsolved questions within science the general consensus is that science is something that can be put to a test, proven with scientific experiments, facts, data and common sense.

Religious faith, not so much, faith is more like a feeling, a built in ideology that one embraces blindly and without contemplating the absurdities of the very things these sets of beliefs are. I really feel sorry for people of faith because in my book they have surrendered their ability to think logically and abandoned reason to go and waddle in that mud puddle of ignorance and superstition they call religious faith.

I am singularly troubled when I see a politician running for high office who claims to be “born again” and who believes in “Creationism”, because if they have those sets of ideas then not only are they removed from the realities of science but they are invoking a self-righteous ignorance protected by their faith. It is in my book a mental and intellectual flaw and anyone holding those faith-based beliefs should not occupy any elected office…not even dog catcher.

I am a firm believer that man does not have the capacity to understand everything nor does he have an appropriate answer to the questions that have plagued mankind since the beginning…”where do we come from and who made all this?” But then again, just because we can’t answer that with certainty that does not mean that we have to invent, to fabricate if you will a whole slew of absurdities and explanations, coupled with superstition and outlandish fairy tales. It is all so very fantastic that I can’t reconcile my intellect with faith.

It is not surprising then that the religious right is hell bent on catching our young while they are still vulnerable and gullible…their innocence is fertile ground for indoctrination and that then becomes the priority for these bible pushing fanatics…to deny teaching them science and evolution and replace it instead with creationism.

“Most believe that he who has the most is THE most blessed…You hear it all the time…God bless me with this N’ that because of my dedication and so on. Pastor tells his church how he got where he is because of the goodness of God, but I can’t help but wonder if God has blessed him with certain things, why are SO many not as blessed as he is? I mean they all attend the same church, worship the same God yet…How could SO many NOT see that their various LOVE offerings are just their contributions to the PONZI SCHEME in disguise called religion?”**

“Some believe that science can neither prove NOR disprove the existence of a God, so does that mean that God does not work in a scientific manner? I beg to differ; if religious persons accept the concept of God, then surely they can accept that he created man and gave him knowledge to prove OR disprove his existence…right? How does one reject science after all the good it has done for us? ESPECIALLY when religion teaches that believing in the invisible is more important than understanding the perceivable. Why does personal faith trump critical thinking?” ***

It's time for Clarence Thomas to resign.

Blatant violations of our trust, the arrogance of his actions and the partisan voting in response to his generous sponsors, make Clarence Thomas unfit to sit in the highest court of the land.

A New York Times expose published Sunday details the improper ties between Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and influential rightwing funder and activist Harlan Crow. Crow is a major contributor to conservative causes and a stalwart supporter of Clarence Thomas. In past years he gave Thomas' wife, Ginni Thomas, $500,000 to exploit the Citizens United decision and start a shadowy, Tea Party-related group called Liberty Central. He gave Thomas a bible (estimated value $15,000) that once belonged to Frederick Douglass, and reportedly provided the Supreme Court Justice with access to his yacht and private jet. As if that wasn't enough, the New York Times has revealed that Thomas may have improperly solicited a multi-million dollar donation from Crow to benefit one of his own pet projects near his birth place in a remote coastal community outside Savannah, Georgia. Enough is enough. I just signed a petition, calling on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to resign. You should sign the petition, too. Click below to take action.

This is history folks, the New York Legislature has just voted in favor of same sex marriage with some provisions that allow religious institution to continue their hatred and their ability to discriminate…but not be able to stop people from getting married…

Republican-Teahadists don’t understand civility, diplomacy, reason or pay attention to facts

My daughter pointed out that perhaps I was being too harsh in my approach, not diplomatic enough, very outspoken and if that was the way I wanted to come across, that is fine but that she thought that I could not get my point across that way.

Of course, I agree with her on that point but there are circumstances and times when you have to draw a line in the sand…you must do this in order to defend what little territory you have left, whatever small amount of dignity and self respect you are left with. This we must do under duress and extreme situations.

I explained to my daughter that at this point; I have nothing left to lose…like Janis Joplin said in her song: “freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose” and in my case what else could society and Republicans in particular take away from me at this point? My Social Security, my Medicare, my freedom of speech, my right to vote, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion or freedom from religion as is my case? The answer of course is all of the above.

I further explained that I don’t think that this business of being civil and meeting Republicans half way is working out for the majority of Americans. I don’t think that our President is aware that giving in to their demands, compromising on issues and negotiating with Teahadist-Republicans doesn’t work.

It is precisely for those reasons that the GOP right wing fanatics have become so emboldened, so in your face, so arrogant and it shows that they don’t understand reason, facts or logic…the right wing fanatics that have taken over the Republican party (one that had an askew ideology to begin with) will not sit down to negotiate, will not compromise and least of all do what is right for the country or for the American people.

I think that Republican-Teahadists grossly misinterpret our desire to get along, to be civil and tolerant…they see us doing this and believe that we are giving in, we are succumbing to their insistence, to their ideas and that their point of view is prevailing. Nothing could be further from the truth of course, but these right-wing fanatics will continue to do it as long as we continue to allow it. That is why I think that perhaps we could be a lot more combative, more in your face, more explicit in our opposition and stronger in our resolve…we have seen that reason and logic don’t work so we have to adopt a different approach…and I suggest that total rejection, ridicule, calling them out on their lies the minute they say them, be proactive, be on the offense constantly and we will see them retreating.

And amazingly, with the behavior and tactics that can only be classified as sabotage and treason, they have blocked any and all efforts to turn the economy around…because Republicans figured that if the American people are miserable and enduring hard economic times they will turn around and vote Republican…

They are forgetting something here…a lot of the voters are easily misled and gullible that is a fact…but then there is a significant part of our population that is well informed and on to the antics of the Republican politicians…they will never vote Republican.

And if you add in another factor: that the Republicans have repudiated all minorities, then you may have a very solid opposition that will take them to the cleaners come next election; particularly if they continue to obstruct and delay legislation in the next two years as they have done in the last two.

Lastly, the Republicans are acting as if they had no part on creating the mess we are in. There too the American public is not going to let them off the hook. At least folks like myself will remind them every day of their miserable lives that they got us into this mess and are not doing anything to correct it…just the opposite, and then on top of that they want to benefit the richest of the very rich by extending tax cuts…honestly, these assholes have a lot of gall.

Jim looks a lot like this model

A while back I ran into the only gay Republican I know personally. This is a very nice person but rather a stubborn and misinformed one. Basically a good fellow, a very handsome but a bit on the intellectually challenged side.

So I asked him: “How are you doing Jim? I haven’t seen you all summer, what have you been doing?

So he answers: “Oh, I’ve been busy working to prevent Obama from passing all these SOCIALIST laws”

“Come on, now Jim, you are smarter than that, SOCIALIST? It sounds to me like you have been listening to Rushie Bouncie-Bouncie Limbaugh” I said.

He answered: “I rather not talk politics with you, you are a radical liberal”

So I said: “Well if you don’t want to argue any issues on the merits and the facts that is ok with me, but remember that there are certain things in society that have to be socialized because we can’t have the private sector operate it for profit reasons, like the electric company, for example, which is a natural monopoly and we can’t have any competition…can you imagine ten different electricity providers? Having ten different sets of high tension wires running behind your house?

So he says: “Electric companies should be in private hands, there is nothing wrong with making a profit”

My answer: “Of course there is nothing wrong with making a profit, but remember that when greed takes over, there is no limit and the excesses are hurtful to society…because greed has no conscience”

I continued: “The best economic system is that of the Free Enterprise but it has to have regulations or greed will take over”

He answered: Blah, blah, blah, it is all a SOCIALIST program, Obama is a Socialist and
wants to turn this country into a SOVIET style dictatorship”

“I can see that you are totally blinded by some conspiracy theory, the truth of the matter is that even if you have the facts in front of you, you will not admit that you are wrong. What I don’t understand is…”

He interrupts me: “And you are blinded by the demagoguery the Democrats have been feeding their party members”

“Let me finish, don’t interrupt me, what I was going to say was that I don’t understand why a gay person and one who is middle class would support the Republican party?” What do you have to gain from having Healthcare defeated? Do you own a lot of stocks in the Insurance or Pharmaceutical companies? Didn’t you get laid off recently? For the life of me I can’t even comprehend why if you almost lost your house, avoided foreclosure, and yet you are still defending the very system that has hurt you in so many ways”

“I rather not discuss this anymore” He got up and left.

For me, this is a person that encapsulates all that I admire in a public servant. I was fortunate enough to meet her because while my daughter was at the University of Chicago Law School both her and my daughter lived in the same building. I was in the elevator with her and then outside where we carried a very interesting and lively conversation. Once she found out I was Cuban and that my daughter lived there it was as if she wanted to pump information out of me…

She asked me what I thought would follow Fidel Castro’s death and I told her I thought of the Chinese model after Mao Tze Tung, it remained totalitarian and repressive but opened up to investments and the free enterprise system.

A bright and delightful person she was. Here are some of Carol Moseley Braun’s quotes:

“All I really want to be is boring. When people talk about me, I'd like them to say, Carol's basically a short Bill Bradley. Or, Carol's kind of like Al Gore in a skirt.

“And frankly, being a woman I think gives me a slightly different take on a lot of the issues and on a lot of the solutions to the problems we face.”

“Bush is giving the rich a tax cut instead of putting that cut in the pockets of working people.”

“I believe that our message of rebuilding America is one that will resonate with the American people.”

“I really think that's the key, part of the spiritual renewal that America needs to have, the notion that we really can have confidence in a better tomorrow.

“I think Americans want to believe in this country again.”

“I think if we are actually going to accept our generation's responsibility, that's going to mean that we give our children no less retirement security than we inherited from our parents.”

“I think it does suggest that the American people really do want to listen to somebody who actually has some solutions, some answers, and gives them some hope.”

“I think that we have a responsibility to make certain that we are fiscally responsible in order to assure, frankly, future generations don't have to pay our bills.”

“I think the legacy of the civil rights movement is that now whites are more open to being represented by people of color or people who are women or, again, non-traditional candidates.”

“I was the only person of color in the Senate, and my colleagues were Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms and Trent Lott.”

“If we can rebuild Iraq, we can rebuild Illinois and Indiana and if we can do Baghdad, we can do Baltimore.”

“Magic lies in challenging what seems impossible.”

“New Zealand, by the way, where I was ambassador, has had two women prime ministers - one from either party.

“So I think that if we want to have a Congress, if we want to have government that looks like America, if we want to have government that is truly a representative Democracy, then we need to clearly address how we get our campaign laws out of the way of Democracy.

“The fact is that the diversity in this political class serves the same interest as diversity in any arena, which is it stirs the competitive pot.”

“The failure in Ohio to have adequate voting capacity for the people who were registered and eligible to vote was an absolute denial of their right to vote.”

“The really important victory of the civil rights movement was that it made racism unpopular, whereas a generation ago at the turn of the last century, you had to embrace racism to get elected to anything.”

“Well, if you pick a fight with somebody that's smaller than you and you beat them, where's the honor in that?

Give you a hint: It has nothing to do with families

For those old enough to remember the great feud that grew out of then Vice-President Dan Quayle criticizing the character Murphy Brown for having a baby and not being married; as the whole thing grew into a national debate when it should not even have been discussed.

The thing is, that Republicans are so enthralled in defining “FAMILY VALUES” as those things that are sexually outside of their norm; it has to do with passing judgment and with imposing on others their concepts of sexuality, relationships and even the definition of family…so what does then is “Family values” as seen by Republican-Teahadists?

The answer is absolutely nothing that helps families; zilch efforts to make lives easier for the middle class and on top of that they are mounting on the debt and having the poor and middle class pay for it while taxes are cut on the rich and the corporations…Is that a family value?

The rich don’t have to worry about being ostracized or even criticized for their behavior; after all, they are rich and they can marry and divorce as they see fit…extramarital affairs, same sex relationships, even some of the most bizarre of sexual practices can be indulged if you are rich enough…and you will get away with it.

I remember how I used to think about it back then: When Howard Hughes grew his hair and a beard, looked scraggly and dirty…everyone would say that he was “eccentric”; but if I were to do the same thing people would say: “look at that dirty hippie”.

Family values is not about bumper stickers any more than patriotism is about lapel flags

Think Big: Real family values

by Kaili Joy Gray

“Americans love to talk about family values. That is to say, they love to express outrage—at Janet Jackson's exposed breast; at a politician's adulterous indiscretions; at the sexual orientation of their children's favorite underwater sponge—and slap a "family values" label on their outrage.

While "family values" makes for a convenient bumper sticker slogan for politicians running on a platform of discrimination, the reality is that our nation's domestic policies demonstrate that, in fact, we don't really value families at all. Those who claim to advocate for family values are far more concerned with narrowly defining what constitutes a family than with promoting policies that support and strengthen existing families. Relatively few governmental programs exist to assist families and those that do are laughably underfunded and restricted, and under constant attack from the very people who feign outrage at faux issues.

We could do this. Other countries around the world that have claimed an interest in helping families have invested resources in effective programs rather than propaganda. From family planning to family leave to subsidized health care and education, there are policies that do work. Unfortunately, our "family values" debate in this country dismisses such policies as socialism and sinfulness. So instead of investing in what works, our resources are diverted to propaganda that doesn't.

But it doesn't have to be that way.”

Foucault pendulums are a popular feature in science museums around the world. This one hangs out in the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, Italy.

I am sure most of you were taught about the pendulum theory in high school

And then the adage: “those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it” And it has come full circle in my opinion. The problem is that the pendulum just broke free from its moorings and it is now flying free to do what pendulums do…as your physics high school teacher told you that an object in motion that does not meet any resistance will remain in motion.

I don’t know if you get my drift and know what I am driving at but suffice it to say that one of the reasons I believe the right wing fanatics have become so emboldened is because they have met no resistance. They lied and purported themselves as something they were not and they made those gains in the elections of 2010. But as we all know, the disaster that followed was transparently clear in places like Arizona, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Minnesota, Florida to name a few. The disastrous policies and passage of legislation that hurts ordinary people from Governors of these states is unprecedented.

That is at the state level but in the national theater there are those Republican-Teahadists hell bent on making Obama a one term President and they don’t give a flying fuck if they hurt the American people in the process…as John Boehner would say: “SO BE IT”

The part that I have trepidation is that the American people sometimes don’t know how to differentiate a demagogue from an idealist, a righteous public servant from a crooked politician, an honest, common sense philosophy as opposed to one imaginary, fill in the blanks if it helps the rich type of platform one.

Sadly, the American experiment we have strived so hard to make work is on life support right now all thanks to those same Republicans who claim to love this country and say they are more patriotic than everyone else when in reality they are traitors…yes TRAITORS to the American dream, traitors to American values, TRAITORS to the Christian principles and most of all, they are TRAITORS to themselves because they have prostituted their legislative access to the highest bidder…WHORES!

Says Hunter in The Neverdamnending Story

“I am more bothered by the notion of conservative legislators that we as a nation do not need to make progress than by any specific successes or failures in actually progressing. The conservative plan for the end of readily available oil is either to ignore it or demand we drill the remaining stuff out faster: there is no plan B. The conservative plan for creating jobs is not "tax cuts", because we now have all lived through an unimpeachable real-world demonstration that those tax cuts didn't create any damn jobs, but to tell us all that we need to suck it up and expect nothing better. The plan for health care is to have less health care. The plan for our infrastructure is to not have a plan, because that costs money. There is no vision of a future America that does anything any better than we do right now: instead, there is an active hunger to do each thing slightly worse.

That said, they seem to get most starry-eyed and visionary when it comes to stripping away rights of the common folk. At the state level, their efforts to strip workers of collective bargaining rights seem more fervently pushed than any other issue, with aggressive restrictions against "certain" voters, "certain" immigrants, and "certain" women close behind. At the national level, it is taken as universal truth that of course all cuts to government will be placed squarely on the backs of the poor. It's not even a question – there are no substantive proposals that the rich share the pain. Not a damn one. The gap between rich and poor in America, and how it has expanded dramatically post-Reagan, is common knowledge – but it won't make a difference. Money is not just seen as equivalent to free speech, but is seen as equivalent to morality. If you are poor, you are immoral. If you are rich, it is because you have been blessed. Or are a Randian producer, and not a parasite.”

I become so indignant whenever I see right through these Republican-Teahadists playing the race card or otherwise vilifying minorities in order to scare the shit out of those bigoted, ignorant base they now call the Tea Party. In my day they were not just considered fringe and radical, the likes of the John Birch Society was looked upon as an aberration, a weird and nonsensical group of reactionaries and bigots and the rest of society didn’t buy into it.

Enter the powerful corporations, the very wealthy…folks like the Koch brothers who are really the product of, if not directly associated with the Birchers and they fund, organize and supervise a pervasive effort to turn America into a theocratic plutocracy.

Distractions are many…from abortion to the peccadilloes of politicians, from repeal DADT to paint gays as predators and child molesters…all of it meant to draw attention away from what they are really doing…DESTROYING AMERICA!

Sunday, June 19, 2011

Everywhere in America there is a concerted effort by the GOP to disenfranchise minority voters and those likely to vote for Democrats in the 2012 election.

It is systematic, it is pervasive and it is evil…it goes against the very concept of the democratic process where we should as a whole encourage people to vote and make it easier, more convenient and less complicated.

But no, that is not what is in the GOP agenda…they are doing just the opposite by redistricting, by enacting new rules on eligibility, by demanding documents of identification a lot of people just don’t have and by shortening the time for registration to vote. The Teabagger-Republicans have gone as far as eliminating early voting and the onslaught continues on this attack on this fine experiment we’ve had in America that our Founding Fathers regaled us with.

The thing I find indignant is that the Teabagger-Republicans boast of being patriotic, loving America and freedom…but this attack on voting is neither…it is downright treason!

But at the rate we are going we are not even going to get the fucking crumbs.

That phrase supposedly uttered by Marie Antoinette when she asked why the peasants were revolting, she supposedly said it. It is still being argued as to the veracity of such asinine remark but it exemplified the lack of compassion and the total disconnects the royals had with the French people.

Similarly in America, the super wealthy and the corporations have bamboozled a segment of our citizens who were gullible to begin with and ignorant to no end…that the only way to achieve prosperity in America is to do away with the Federal Government and all the social safety nets in existence.

I still don’t understand it however, how could people who don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of, would defend so vigorously those very special interests that would just as well see them starve or die without medical care, the wealthy and the corporations don’t even want the general public to be educated…as a matter of fact they would much rather they be religious fanatics so that they could be easily governed.

The Republicans and those Tea Baggers…who by the way are heading for a very nasty confrontation, have gone so far to the right in a very destructive radical way that one has to think there is a dose of insanity in it all;…how could these leaders of the GOP who are usually the better informed ones not see that their party’s agenda will ruin America and most importantly…since there is no need for government they would be out of a job themselves when the government becomes so small and only used for the purpose of policing morality in our bedrooms. Oh, sure, they put out their hands to receive all those magnificent contributions and will do as the lobbyists tell them instead of what the people who elected them wanted; but make no mistake about it…if the Republican-Teahadists had their way they would become painfully irrelevant.

The way I see it, the Republican-Teahadists have only one use for government; and it is to legislating morality and policing our bedrooms...that is it.

But a word of warning to those Republican-Teahadists who want to turn our country into a plutocracy: The American people are peace-loving, docile and noble but if you piss them off enough they can be even more indignant than the French were when they overthrew their monarchy,…heads did roll then and heads could roll now when everyone is poor, repressed by a right wing tyranny and they see that privileged 1% eating the most delectable morsels while the American people don’t even have the fucking crumbs.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

The Republican-Teahadists became emboldened and thought they had a mandate after their gains in the 2010 elections.

Instead of actually doing the things that they ran on, the very things that got them elected; once they got to Washington or to the Governors’ Mansions they did a turn around and began legislating just the opposite of those things they promised.

But worse, the Republican-Teahadists have become such radicals that just a decade ago or even less these ideas would have been considered crazy, irresponsible, unpatriotic and racist. The Republican Party may cease to exist after the 2012 elections or they may take decades to recuperate.

You see, there is no way a political party can win an election if they systematically exclude large groups of people…we have seen that one by one the Republicans don’t really welcome Blacks and having a Black President is probably the single most irritant to the racists that are always welcomed in the Republican fold. It is not surprising then to see that more than 90% of Blacks will vote for Democrats.

Conversely, Hispanics are much in the same boat. Latinos have seen how the Supreme Court nomination went for Sotomayor; they have seen the Arizona “Show me your papers” law that is being replicated in other states as well. Latinos are very well aware that as long as they picked the fruit, cleaned the floors and served the tables the WASPHROMS welcomed immigration, even undocumented one. But now that Latinos are poised to be a majority in America the omelet has turned. The xenophobes are frantically trying to hold on to the reins of power and that is why you heard in the summer of 2009 all these people going to disrupt public discourse and sabotage any efforts by their elected officials to interface with constituents…and the cry that was most often heard was “THEY ARE TAKING AWAY MY AMERICA”.

There are others like blue collar, labor unions and the working poor that has been negatively affected by Republican endeavors best exemplified with what the Governor of Wisconsin did to labor unions.

But if the Republican-Teahadists would have stopped right there they might still have had a chance; however, the Republican agenda calls for the elimination of all safety nets like Medicare, Medicaid and even Social Security which will still be solvent two decades from now.

You also have the visceral rejection of gays from Republicans although many of them are caught in compromising situations in some sordid men’s restroom or sending amorous e-mails to underage male pages. The list goes on and on with the Republican repudiation of gays: opposition to DADT, opposition to gays adopting children, opposition to same sex marriage and even civil unions…what is in the Republican-Teahadist plate is to be able to discriminate legally against gays and to further try to humiliate and suppress them…but make no mistake about it…we have seen the valley on the other side of the mountain and it is the promised land and gays are not going back in the closet any time soon; but neither are Blacks going back to the back of the bus or worse yet the plantations. Women know that they are the owners of their reproductive organs, not the government and they too will come out and vote in crushing numbers against this morality police state.

We also as a people are not so dumb as to buy into the TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS crap. Middle class Americans have seen their incomes dwindling if they haven’t lost their jobs altogether, their homes, their retirement and their health insurance…do you really think that any person that lost their job as a result of this economic mess the Republicans created doesn’t think at least contemplates the reason for their misery?

Lastly, I have a message for my Cuban compatriots…those Cuban-Americans who have traditionally voted Republican…we have elected the likes of Ileana Ross, Lincoln Diaz Balart and lately Marco Rubio…let me say to these Cuban Republicans that this party they belong to, these Republican politicians they elect across the country are allergic to the eñes and the accents…they go ballistic whenever they hear Spanish and become indignant when we send our children to college and totally go into apoplexy when we go out to vote. So the question I pose to my countrymen is this: How could you possibly give your vote to people who hate you and are denying you your rights? If Marco Rubio, Ileana Ross or Diaz Balart would like to answer that question I sure would welcome their response.

I knew what was going to be said and who was going to say it.

Yes, I’ve seen that movie before, so, why bother? The Republican-Teahadist exercise in futility of that debate should surprise nobody; there was all the usual crap about government being too big, the budget, the deficit and unemployment and not one single fucking solution to any of them.

There also was the standard bearer for getting the Evangelical-right wingers to vote…just a reminder, a motivation if you will that the Republican-Teahadists continue to be rabidly homophobic.

But where they really showed their xenophobia was in their consensus of privatizing, tax-cutting, opposing Shariah law. SHARIA LAW? What the fuck? I always thought we were under the laws of the Constitution of the United States, which to them is so fluid and so elastic that they will alter and violate it with more egregious consequences than if we actually had Sharia law.

There was the antics of ding-bat in residence Michelle Bachmann who could not appear radical enough to hold on to the crass base of those right-wing-nuts. I must say that it was a nice ego trip for her; to have so much ignorance and mediocrity elevated to national status must have given her a sense of pride.

So, for what is worth; I am not one bit impressed and neither should anybody else; perhaps that is why there is so little enthusiasm among Teabagger-Republicans to rally behind any one given candidate…not one of them is worth a shit!

Please take a look at this video and very simply and eloquently a man who knows what he is talking about can clear it all up for you. (he can draw too) I was fortunate to have a very long conversation with Robert Reich at the DeGaulle Airport in Paris as we were both waiting our flight to New York. Not only does this man know what he is talking about but can give the likes of Geithner a pointer or two.

It is like it is, you can’t embellish the facts nor can you change them to fit your erroneous concept of how the economy works and why we have unemployment so high. The truth is there for everyone to see even if Republican-Teahadists try their dishonest best to mislead and misinform the public.
